Bosa

Traditions and Religious festivals

The festival of Nostra Signora di Regnos Altos on the 8th September, is absolutely not to be missed. During this festival, the statue of the Madonna is taken around in a procession towards the sanctuary, followed by the faithful with their unusual altarittos (small votive altars).
Another interesting occasion, is the Bosa carnival, where fun, entertainment and tradition give life to a truly enthralling experience. Finally, we would also mention the festival of Santa Maria del Mare, which falls on the first Sunday in August. It is a fascinating occasion with a procession of the Madonna, who is transported on a boat, down the river.

Environmental heritage

The environmental heritage is truly beautiful and totally uncontaminated: after the incredible views seen travelling from Alghero to Bosa, we reach the area of Bosa Marina, a seaside resort marked by beautiful beaches hidden amongst rocks.

The preserved, wild, natural environment has proved itself to be the ideal location for the gryphon – at risk of extinction – but which has found its ideal habitat in which to thrive and reproduce, within the bio-marine park of Capo Marargiu.

Inside the reserve, scholars and volunteers carry out research and protection activities. As you near the town, the uniqueness of the Isola Rossa (Red Island) is particularly striking. The island is connected to the coast by a stone viaduct where the magnificent Spanish tower dominates.
Above the variety of an exceptional stretch of coastline, the strong romantic presence of the Malaspina castle.
